Command Master Chief Gardner is a native of Pensacola, FL. He enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1998. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he completed seaman apprenticeship training. 
 
Fleet assignments include USS STETHEM (DDG-63), San Diego, CA; USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), Mayport, FL; USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), Yokosuka, Japan; Expeditionary Exploitation Unit One (EXU-1), Indian Head, MD; USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76), Yokosuka, Japan; USS ANTIETAM (CG-54), Yokosuka, Japan; and USS WARRIOR (MCM-10), Sasebo, Japan.
 
Ashore, he served at Naval Submarine Support Facility (NSSF), Groton, CT; and Navy Personnel Command (CNAVPERSCOM MILL), Millington, TN.
 
Master Chief Gardner is currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader onboard USS HOWARD (DDG-83) home-ported in Yokosuka, Japan. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. Additionally, Master Chief Gardner is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 197), CMC/COB course (Class 201), and has earned his Afloat Training Specialist designation.
  
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7 awards), and various unit campaign awards.
