A native of Arvada, CO, CAPT Holzer enlisted in the US Naval Reserve in 1988.  During his reserve enlistment CAPT Holzer earned a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management.  CAPT Holzer reported to Officer Candidate School June 1995, receiving his commission.  CAPT Holzer completed flight training in June 1997.

Upon designation as a Naval Aviator he reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC-3) at NAS North Island, California, to complete the CH-46D Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) syllabus in route to his first fleet squadron, the HELSUPPRON ELEVEN (HC-11), making deployments on USS CAMDEN (AOE-2) and USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6). Captain Holzer transitioned to the MH-60S Knight Hawk and was assigned to HC-6.  Additional sea duty included Helicopter Sea Combat Support Squadron TWO ONE (HSC-21).  Deploying as Officer in Charge Detachment Five, he led a successful deployment as part of the 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment, providing MEDEVAC for the northern Arabian Gulf, southern Iraq and Kuwait.

CAPT Holzer’s last sea duty was as the Executive and Commanding Officer of HSC-12 making the homeport change from San Diego, CA to Atsugi, Japan.  While with HSC-12 he made deployments onboard USS LINCOLN (CVN-72) and USS GEORGE WASHINTON (CVN-73), including Humanitarian Relief efforts in the Republic of the Philippines following typhoon Haiyan.

Captain Holzer’s shore duty assignments include Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC-3) as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor.  Naval Helicopter Transition Team (NHTT) where he was responsible for the ROC/POE and manpower structure for transitioning helicopter communities.  United State Northern Command as a Future Maritime Operations Planner in the J3 directorate.  Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet as the Director of Naval and Amphibious Liaison Element to Commander, Pacific Air Forces, providing integrated joint training and mission execution.  Most recently as the Commodore for Fleet Air Western Pacific (CFWP), the executive agent in the SEVENTH and FIFTH Fleet areas of responsibility for the Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNAP).  Additionally, CFWP serves as Commander, SEVENTH Fleet Air Logistics Support for Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific operational logistics in peacetime theater engagement and contingency operations.

Assumed command August 2021 of Tactical Air Control Group ONE at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. Providing deployable air command and control element in support of amphibious/expeditionary warfare operations in the Pacific Fleet.

Captain Holzer has accumulated over 4,500 flight hours in various aircraft.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight), Navy Commendation Medal (5), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations and campaign awards.
