Senior Chief Bonas is a native of Inglewood, CA. He enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program in May of 2000 in Los Angeles, CA. He attended “boot camp” at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, IL, in September 2000. He completed Engineering Common Core School at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes in Great Lakes, IL, in December 2000.
He reported to USS RUSHMORE (LSD-47) in January of 2001. He completed two deployments in the Arabian Gulf, South China Sea. He participated in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, and two RIM OF THE PACIFIC (RIMPAC) exercises in support of multi-national operations. Additionally, he achieved his Enlisted Surface Warfare Qualification and struck Operations Specialist. He reported to USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG-85) in September 2004, where he completed one deployment in the Arabian Gulf, South China Sea. He participated in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
He reported to VX-30 at Point Mugu, CA, in September 2006. Assigned as the Surface Tracker, he was charged with supporting range clearance to test various weapon systems. He completed one ten-month Intermediate Augmentee (IA) deployment supporting Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar (CRAM) in Iraq. He also achieved his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Qualification.
He reported to USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52) in September 2010. Assigned as the Air Intercept Control Supervisor (AICS), he was charged with training and mentorship of basic AICs onboard. He completed three deployments supporting OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, and supported Maritime Security Operations. He completed his Associate in Arts in Supervision and Management in 2013 at Coastline Community College.
He reported to TACRON ELEVEN (VTC-11) in October 2015, completing one deployment in the Arabian Gulf, the coast of Djibouti, and Yemen aboard USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD-8). His duties included Detachment Leading Chief Petty Officer and Air Intercept Control Supervisor. He achieved his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (EIDWS) and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2016.
He reported to Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Detachment San Diego in October 2017 as an Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Course Supervisor and Senior Air Intercept Control Supervisor. His duties included classroom instruction on Air Warfare Asset Management and Lab Instruction on Combat Information Center (CIC) watch teams. During this tour, he achieved his Master Training Specialist Qualification. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2019. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management in 2018 at the University of La Verne.
Senior Chief Bonas currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Commander, Tactical Air Control Group ONE, and Air Intercept Controller Supervisor for Expeditionary Strike Group THREE. Additionally, he is a Senior Enlisted Academy Grad Class 240. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one gold star), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 gold stars), Army Achievement Medal, and other various unit and campaign awards.
