Commander Burba, a Cincinnati native, enlisted into the United States Navy September, 1997. After eight years as a Mineman, he was selected for the Seaman to Admiral Officer Accession Program in 2002, after attending Navy ROTC at Iowa State University, he was commissioned in May 2006. Burba later earned a Master’s Degree in Operations Research at the Naval Post Graduate School.

Burba’s Sea tours include serving aboard USS Heron (MHC 52) as the CIC Leading Petty Officer, USS Boone (FFG 28) as the Communications Officer, USS Princeton (CG 59) as the Main Prolusion Assistant, USS Higgins (DDG 76) and USS Port Royal as the Chief Engineer.

Burba’s shore tours include Engineering Assessments, Afloat Training Group Pacific as Gas Turbine Lead Inspector and Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet as the Fleet Scheduler.

He is currently serving as the Executive Officer aboard USS Oakland (LCS 24) Blue Crew.

Burba’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5) and various campaign medals and unit awards.
