Cmdr. Andrew Laidler is a native of Boston, Mass. He was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program in May of 2006 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He earned a master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School and completed his Joint Professional Military Education through the Naval War College.
At sea, Cmdr. Laidler served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer aboard USS Cape St George (CG 71); Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Sampson (DDG 102); Chief Engineer on USS Benfold (DDG 65); Operations Officer and Gas Turbine/Diesel Assessor at Engineering Assessments Pacific (EAP); and as the Senior Anti-Submarine Warfare/Surface Warfare (ASW/SUW) Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) and Sea Combat Commander Lead for Amphibious Squadron Eleven forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan in 2018.
Ashore, he served as an International Instructor for International Surface Warfare Officer School (ISWOS), where he taught ASW and damage control to foreign naval officers. He previously served at Surface Mine Warfighting Development Center – Sea Combat Division where he was in the N7 shop and was the lead ASW/SUW WTI and training officer for all ASW/SUW WTI curriculum.
His current assignment is Executive Officer of USS Oakland (LCS 24) Gold Crew.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and
campaign awards.
