Captain Brian A. Ribota hails from Tracy, California, where he enlisted in the Navy in 1991. Following Basic Submarine School and Machinst Mate “A” school, he reported to USS TUNNY (SSN 682) in 1992 as a member of Auxiliary Division until her decommissioning in 1998.
In 1998, he was selected for the Seaman to Admiral Program and commissioned in Pensacola, Florida, at Officer Candidate School. In 2005 Captain Ribota graduated cum laude from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
At sea, Ribota served on USS JOHN S MCCAIN (DDG 56), USS KINGFISHER (MHC 56), USS STOCKDALE (DDG106), and as executive officer aboard USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. During these tours he deployed to the Pacific and Central Command areas of responsibility. He served as the first commanding officer of USS RAFAEL PERALTA (DDG 115). Currently, CAPT Ribota is the Commodore of Destroyer Squadron Two One where he served as the Sea Combat Commander for the Abraham Lincoln Strike Group.
Ashore, he served as the surface enlisted community manager at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS-3) in Millington, Tennessee. Most recently ashore he served in the J3 as a Joint Operations Center Team Chief as well as assistant Secretary for the Joint Staff at United States Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany.
His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), as well as various personal, campaign, and service decorations.
