Commander Dave Haile hails from Hudson, Ohio. He graduated and received his commission from the US Naval Academy in 2003 with a B.S. in Naval Architecture.

His first assignment as a Division Officer was aboard USS SHILOH (CG 67) from June 2003 through August 2006 where he served as the Strike Officer and Navigator, homeported in San Diego.  During these tours he conducted a deployment to the Western and Southern Pacific, conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Indonesia following the devastating tsunami in December 2004.  After a hull swap, he served as the Navigator aboard USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) from September 2006 through February 2007.  On shore duty, he served a Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) Instructor at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego from February 2007 through February 2009. He then served as the Flag Aide to the Deputy Commander, Naval Special Warfare in Coronado, CA from February 2009 through June 2010. 

From June 2010 to May 2011 he attended Department Head School in Newport, RI, before reporting to the USS O’KANE (DDG 77) in Pearl Harbor, HI in May 2011 as Weapons Officer. In July 2012 he “fleeted up” onboard O’KANE to become the Combat Systems Officer, a role which he served in until June 2014. During his tours on O’KANE he conducted two independent Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) deployments to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.

Following his Department Head tours he reported to Surface Warfare Officers’ School (SWOS) in Newport, RI as the coordinator for the Surface Navy’s Command Qualification Program, conducting assessments on fleet department heads and prospective CO’s in accordance with CNSP’s Command Qualification Instruction from July 2014 through July 2016. From August 2016 through June 2017 he got his Master’s Degree in Security Studies from the US Naval War College in Newport.  He returned to Pearl Harbor in July 2017, serving as the Operations Officer at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific until December 2018.  He has served as USS DANIEL INOUYE’s Executive Officer since August 2019.
