Cmdr. Christopher H. Bland is a native of Medford, New Jersey and a 2003 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was commissioned through the NROTC program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering as an undergraduate and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2011.

Bland’s sea duty assignments include tours as auxiliaries officer aboard USS Lassen (DDG 82); navigator aboard USS Ogden (LPD 5); chief engineer aboard USS Lassen (DDG 82); Flag Secretary to Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11 embarked aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68); executive officer aboard USS Mc Campbell (DDG 85) and USS Mobile (LCS 26) Blue Crew.

Ashore, he has served as Admin Department Head at Maritime Component Command in Northwood, United Kingdom; as an Engineering Assessor at Engineering Assessments Atlantic; and as Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron 60 in Rota, Spain.

His current assignment is commanding officer of USS Mobile (LCS 26) Gold Crew.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and the Surface Navy Association’s Admiral Arleigh Burke Award for Operational Excellence 2014.
