Commander Sandomir, a native of Tempe, Arizona, entered the Navy in 1999 as an Electronic Warfare Technician. He earned his commission in 2003 through the Auburn University NROTC Unit.
His assignments at sea include Combat Information Center Officer and Main Propulsion Division Officer aboard USS FORD (FFG 54), Navigator and Operations Officer aboard the experimental platform, SEAFIGHTER (FSF-1), Chief Engineer aboard USS HALSEY (DDG 97) and USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), Material Staff Officer in COMMANDER, DESTROYER SQUADRON TWO ONE, Executive Officer aboard USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) and Commanding Officer aboard USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG 85). During these operational tours, he completed deployments and missions in the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Indian Ocean, and Western Pacific.
Ashore, he served as a Junior Officer Assignment Officer, Bureau of Naval Personnel, PERS-41 (Surface Warfare), as a Federal Executive Fellow at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, as Strategy Action Officer for Director, Surface Warfare OPNAV N96, and as Deputy N9 for Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Commander Sandomir’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and various service campaign and unit decorations.
Commander Sandomir holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Auburn University, Auburn, AL; a Master of Homeland Defense and Security from The Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA; and is a graduate of the Spanish language immersion curriculum from Defense Foreign Language Institute, Monterey, CA.
