Lt. Cmdr. Robert Floyd, a native of Atlanta, earned his bachelor of science in mathematics from Morehouse College and commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program in December 2006.
His sea assignments include USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) as combat electronic officer and repair division officer while continuously forward deployed to the Western Pacific Ocean. USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) as training officer preparing the ship to support Enterprise Carrier Strike Group’s final deployment. As a department head, he served as the operations officer onboard USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) and USS Anzio (CG 68). Upon completion of his department head tours, he reported to Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2 and he assumed the roles of assistant surface operations officer, deploying to the Mediterranean Sea.
Floyd’s shore tours include the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) where he earned his master of science degree in operations research. He reported to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) staff as a manpower analyst within the N12 directorate, following NPS. He also served at the Bureau of Personnel as an assignments officer, assisting more than 50 commands in the management of officer training and transfer as the Atlantic Fleet cruiser-destroyer placement officer.
Lt. Cmdr. Floyd's designations and awards include, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), Korean Service Defense Medal, and various unit and service awards.
