A native of San Diego, CA, and a graduate of Wake Forest University, Cmdr Matt Farrell was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL, in 2006. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College and a Master of Professional Studies in Leadership, Education, and Development from the University of Maryland.
At sea, Cmdr Farrell served as communications officer and training officer aboard USS MILIUS (DDG 69); combat systems officer and operations officer aboard USS CORONADO (LCS 4) Gold Crew; and Flag Secretary for Commander, Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN.
Ashore, Cmdr Farrell served as the 21st Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy and as the Executive Officer of Afloat Training Group Pacific Northwest.
His current assignment is Executive Officer, USS JACKSON (LCS 6).
CDR Farrell’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
