Command Master Chief Mark W. Melia, is a native of Guilford, Maine and enlisted in the United States Navy in 2001. Upon completing recruit training; he reported to MA “A-School” in Little Creek Virginia and to his first duty assignment to Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, as MASR Melia. He is a graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 224/Khaki), and CMC/COB Course 22080.
At sea assignments include, Security Forces Harbor Patrol Unit Naval Support Activity Bahrain (2005-2006), USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) (2006-2007), USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) (2011-2013), and at Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia (2016-2017). During his assignment onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67), he earned Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification and re-qualified (different platform) onboard USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56).
Shore and overseas assignments include, Naval Station Rota, Spain (2007-2010), Security Detachment Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Joint Reserve Base (2013-2016), Headquarters United States European Command Stuttgart, Germany (2018-2020), and Center for Security Forces Detachment Chesapeake (2020-2022).
Upon her commissioning in March 2023, he will become the first Sailor to serve as USS CARL M. LEVIN (DDG 120) Command Master Chief.
Command Master Chief Melia has earned his Criminal Justice Associate’s Degree from Coastline Community College and continues to work towards his Bachelor Associate’s Degree in English from UMGC.
Personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (six awards), Good Conduct Medal (five awards), and numerous campaign and service awards.
