CDR Jason M. Garfield

Past Executive Officer, USS STERETT (DDG 104)

23 May 2022 A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Commander Garfield graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History.

Commander Garfield’s sea duty assignments as a division officer include Ordnance Officer, First Lieutenant, and Main Propulsion Officer in USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) and Operations Officer in Patrol Coastal Crew FOXTROT embarked in USS HURRICANE (PC 3) and USS FIREBOLT (PC 10).  Commander Garfield also served as the Flag LT to Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO.  

As a Department Head, he served as the Operations Officer in USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) and USS NORMANDY (CG 60).  During his sea tours he made six deployments; the first two to SEVENTH Fleet in support of the Global War on Terrorism and the last four to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Commander Joint Task Force Horn of Africa.

Ashore, Commander Garfield served as an Action Officer at the United States Joint Forces Command on the Commander’s Protocol Staff, a Surface Warfare Officer Introduction Instructor at Afloat Training Group, Atlantic, the Assistant Officer-in-Charge at the SWOS Basic Division Officer Course, Norfolk, Virginia, and the Surface Strike Section Head for the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N96).  Commander Garfield’s most recent shore duty assignment was as a Post Department Head Detailer (PERS-411) and Captain Detailer (PERS-41C) in Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN.

Commander Garfield holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University.  His personal decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 Awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 Awards), the CNSF Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award, the CCSG 8 Junior Officer Excellence in Tactics Award, and various campaign and unit awards.
