The son of a traveled Army family that settled in Georgia, Captain Severn Stevens was commissioned a Naval Officer in 1999, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science from Savannah State University.  He also holds Master’s degrees in Management Acquisitions and Contract Management from the Florida Institute of Technology and Foreign Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Air Command and Staff College.

At sea, Captain Stevens served in USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as the Interior Communications Officer, USS MAHAN (DDG 72) as the CIC Officer, and USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49), USS JUNEAU (LPD 10), and USS DENVER (LPD 9) as the Operations Officer.  He served on the afloat staffs of commander, Task Force SEVENTY as Korea Exercises and Plans officer and commander, Seventh Fleet as the Fleet Maintenance Officer.  Captain Stevens commanded USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) following his fleet up from Executive Officer.

Ashore assignments include Operational Test Director at commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Forces; Deputy Executive Assistant to the 31st Chief of Naval Operations; and Chief for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE – Iraq and Syria and the Assistant Deputy Director for the Middle East on the Joint Staff J-5.

Captain Stevens is honored to have served on teams that earned Meritorious Unit Commendations and the Navy’s Battle “E” ribbon.
