Cmdr. Ben Nehrke is from Arlington, Virginia and was commissioned in 2004 through the NROTC program. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Military Institute and master’s degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the U.S. Naval War College. 

His at sea tours include serving as Electrical Officer onboard USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47), Assistant First Lieutenant onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), Operations Officer onboard USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC 20), and executive officer of USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19). 

Ashore he served as an Expeditionary Logistics instructor at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific; Current Operations Officer for Joint Intelligence Group, JTF Guantanamo Bay; Administrative Officer for the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard; and as the Officer Promotion Planner on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (N13). 

His current assignment is the Commanding Officer of USS Omaha (LCS 12) Gold Crew.
