CDR Kristina (Melendez) Stoner is a native of Blacksburg, Virginia. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry and was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer. She also earned a Master’s in Business Administration from the College of William & Mary in 2011.
Kristina’s sea tours include Repair Division Officer, Admin Officer, and Damage Control Assistant onboard USS CHOSIN (CG 65) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Chief Engineer onboard USS DECATUR (DDG 73) in San Diego, CA; and the plankowner Maintenance and Material Officer at Destroyer Squadron 60 detachment Rota, Spain.
Ashore, Kristina served as an Admissions Counselor at the United States Naval Academy's Candidate Guidance Office; a Navy Legislative Affairs Fellow in office of Senator Susan Collins (R-ME); the Executive Assistant to the Navy’s Chief of Legislative Affairs; and finally, the Deputy N9 at Commander Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet in San Diego, CA.
Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Naval Achievement Medal (two awards).
