Cmdr. Sam A. Moffett, a native of League City, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs (western hemisphere) from the Naval Postgraduate School.
At sea, Moffett served as the main propulsion assistant aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1), fire control officer aboard USS McFaul (DDG 74), operations officer aboard USS Higgins (DDG 76), current operations on the staff of Destroyer Squadron Two, and executive and commanding officer of USS Ardent (MCM 12).
Ashore, he was a senior officer ship’s material readiness course instructor at the Surface Warfare Officers School, and deputy assistant chief of staff for warfighting assessmentes and readiness and the government program manager at Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Moffett is the executive officer of USS Tulsa (LCS 16) Gold Crew.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit, campaign, and service medals and ribbons.
