CDR Sarah Lynch is a native of Ithaca, NY. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and earned her commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Program in May 2007.
Her first ship was USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75), where she served as the Administration Officer and Force Protection Officer. She remained onboard for her second Division Officer tour as the Damage Control Assistant. She deployed twice with DONALD COOK, both times to 5th Fleet as a VBSS Boarding Officer in support of counter-piracy operations. CDR Lynch served as Chief Engineer on USS GRAVELY (DDG 107), leading her department through INSURV and a deployment with the HARRY S. TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group in the 5th and 6th Fleet AORs. She then reported to USS SHILOH (CG 67) as Chief Engineer, fulfilling duties as AU and AW to BATTLE FORCE SEVENTH FLEET. After screening for Early Command, she reported to USS SCOUT (MCM 8) as Executive Officer and was named the CNSP Surface Warfare Officer of the Year for 2019. Due to the early decommissioning of the CONUS MCMs, she was unable to take command but helped lead her crew through NORTHCOM priority port surveys in support of Homeland Defense while they were still in service.
Ashore, CDR Lynch attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. She earned a Master’s of Science in Operations Research and completed JPME Phase I. She most recently served as a Post-Department Head Detailer and Surface Metrics/Assistant Officer Community Manager in Surface Warfare Officer Distribution (PERS-41) at the Naval Personnel Command in Millington, TN.
Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and various unit awards.
