Master Chief McGill is a native of Charlotte, NC and a 1994 graduate of East Clarendon High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1995 and completed Basic Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL. He graduated in August 1995 from Operations Specialist "A" school in Dam Neck, VA.
His sea duty assignments include USS SPRUANCE (DD 963) Mayport FL, USS DOYLE (FFG 39) Mayport Fl, and USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) Yokosuka, Japan where he qualified as Tactical Action Officer and Officer of the deck underway. Shore duty assignments were Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville FL, Navy Recruiting District Raleigh, NC and Afloat Training Group Western Pacific where he served as the Ballistic Missile Defense, Surface and Air Warfare Team Lead before assuming the duties as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
Command Master Chief McGill was selected as a Chief Petty Officer in 2007, Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2011, Master Chief Petty Officer 2015 and Command Master Chief in 2016. Command Master Chief McGill assumed the duties as Command Master Chief of USS CURTIS WILBUR, Yokosuka Japan in December 2017 for his first Command Master Chief tour where he conducted various patrols in the 7TH Fleet AOR. From September 2020 to October 2022, he served as the Command Master Chief of USS PORT ROYAL where he conducted back to back deployments to C7F and C5F in 2021 and 2022 in which PORT ROYAL was adwarded the 2021 Battle “E” award. He assumed duties as the first Command Master Chief of DESRON 31 on October 2022. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI, Class 195 (Orange) and the CMC/COB Course Class 179. Master Chief McGill holds qualification as a Master of Training Specialist, Afloat Training Specialist, a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Management and Technology as well as Command, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet 2018 Navy and Marines Association Leadership Award winner.
His decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eleven awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various other unit, campaign, and personal awards.
