Cmdr. Spike Lamson is a native of Port Arthur, Texas. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography in 2005. He earned a Master of Science degree in Geosciences at Texas A&M University in 2012.

At sea, he served as the auxiliary machinery officer aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1); training officer aboard USS Halsey (DDG 97); weapons Officer and combat systems officer aboard USS Preble (DDG 88); executive officer aboard USS Lake Erie (CG 70); and commanding officer of USS Coronado (LCS 4).

Ashore, he served as an instructor of naval science at Texas A&M University, and as an Integrated Air and Missile Defense warfare tactics instructor at Navy Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center.

His currently serves as the commanding officer for USS Charleston (LCS 18) Gold crew.

His decorations include the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, three Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) awards, and various personal, service and campaign awards.
