Jonathan is a native of and was raised in Northern New Jersey. He was commissioned from NROTC at Villanova University where he earned a Minor in Naval Science, a Bachelor’s of Science in Accountancy, and a Master’s of Science in Finance.

His first Sea tour was onboard USS DE WERT (FFG 45) as Ordnance Officer based in Mayport, FL where he completed two Counter-Narco Terrorism deployments to the Eastern Pacific. His second Division Officer tour was as the Training Officer onboard USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49) based out of Sasebo, Japan where he participated in Operation Tomodachi, salvage operations for ROKS Cheonan, COBRA GOLD, BALIKATAN, CARAT, and several other exercises across three Patrols. Jonathan served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer onboard USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) based out of Yokosuka, Japan for his Department Head tours to include BMD operations, Multi-Sail, and Valiant Shield.

Jonathan’s shore tours include a GSA in Afghanistan where he worked for the 4-70th Armored Regiment in Tarin Kot District, Uruzgan province as OIC of a Tactical Document and Media Exploitation Team. Following Afghanistan CDR Greenwald attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned an MBA with a focus in Financial Management and completed JPME Phase I. His thesis was on the adoption of energy efficient technologies by the United States Marine Corps. Following his Department Head tour, CDR Greenwald filled the role of N835 at COMPACFLT HQ shaping BMD/IAMD and munitions requirements. Following CPF, Jonathan served as the Aide de Camp to the Deputy Commander of USINDOPACOM with a follow-on tour in the Joint Operations Center at the Navy desk.

His personal decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Commendation Medals, several Navy Commendation Medals, multiple Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
