CDR Robert S. Schmidt

Past Executive Officer, USS Savannah (LCS 28) Blue Crew

14 October 2022 Cmdr. Robert Schmidt, a native of Swanton, Ohio, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, in 2007.  He holds a Master’s of Professional Studies in Leadership, Education and Development from the University of Maryland, College Park.

At sea, Schmidt served aboard USS Cleveland (LPD 7) as the assistant First Lieutenant; USS Higgins (DDG 76) as the fire control officer and Ballistic Missile Defense officer; USS O’Kane (DDG 77) as the weapons and combat systems officer. He has operated in every U.S. Fleet area of operations.  

Ashore, he was a leadership, education and development fellow, serving as the 28th company officer at the United States Naval Academy. He was the Europe and Levant Integrated Air and Missile Defense plans officer for Commander, Task Force SIX FOUR.  He also served as the Assistant Director of Advanced Division Officer training at the Surface Warfare Officers Schools Command.   

Schmidt currently serves as the executive officer of USS Savannah’s (LCS 28) Blue crew.

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendations Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
