Captain Jermaine B. Brooms is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Old Dominion University with two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Accounting and Finance, as well as a 
Master of Science Degree in Accounting with a Specialization in Taxation from the University of Illinois.
 
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1993, serving sea tours aboard the USS SURIBACHI (AE 21), plank owner of Mine Countermeasure Rotational Crew Delta embarking USS SENTRY (MCM 3), USS GUARDIAN (MCM 5), and finally USS WARRIOR (MCM 10).  He was selected for the Seaman-to-Admiral Commissioning Program in 1999, earning his commission in 2002.  Upon graduating from Surface Warfare Officer School, he reported to USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) in Norfolk, Virginia, as the Ordnance Officer, deploying in Standing NATO Mediterranean Group (SNMG) 2003 Surface Operations and earning his Surface Warfare Officer Qualification.  He also served aboard USS LABOON (DDG 58) as Damage Control Assistant and aboard USS STOUT (DDG 55) as the Weapons Officer and later Combat Systems Officer, deploying in support of Exercise Joint Warrior 10-2 and EUCOM Ballistic Missile Defense Deployment 2010/11, ultimately participating in Operation Odyssey Dawn.  Commander Brooms also served aboard USS SENTRY (MCM 3) as Executive Officer, and aboard USS ARDENT (MCM 12) as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer.  His latest assignment was Commanding Officer aboard USS DEWEY (DDG 105).  
 
Ashore duties included AEGIS Training and Readiness Center in Dahlgren, VA, Seamanship and Navigation Instructor and the Class of 2009 Student Advisor at the University of Illinois NROTC Unit, and Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center, Sea Combat Division as assistant Department Head for N5, Tactics and Doctrine. 
 
CAPT Brooms has earned a Meritorious Service Medal, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit, expeditionary, and campaign awards.
