Commander Michelle A. Gire enlisted in the U.S. Navy and entered the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program as a Machinist’s Mate in 1995. Once completing her nuclear training, she served aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74). She was selected for the ROTC program and received a commission from Florida A&M University with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Florida State University. Her afloat assignments include USS KLAKRING (FFG 42), USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), USS TAYLOR (FFG 50), USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72).
Her ashore duties include Naval Service Training Command in Surface Nuclear Programs, NAVCENT/5th FLEET/CMF as Current Operations/Battle Watch Captain, and TYCOM Material Inspection Team Lead Engineer. She is currently the Executive Officer of Afloat Training Group San Diego.
CDR Gire has earned numerous campaign, unit, and personal awards which she credits to the hard work of the team she was member of.
