Captain David Walton is a 1999 graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He earned a Masters of Science in Systems Engineering and Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2005.
A surface warfare officer, CAPT Walton’s sea duty assignments include USS San Jacinto (CG 56), USS Carr (FFG 52), USS DeWert (FFG 45), PC Crew INDIA, Carrier Strike Group TEN, PCU John P. Murtha (LPD 26), USS Jackson (LCS 6), and USS Omaha (LCS 12). Captain Walton’s command tours include PC Crew India where he commanded USS Sirocco (PC 6), USS Typhoon (PC 5), USS Squall (PC 7) and USS Thunderbolt (PC 12) during which time the crew earned two Battle “E” awards, and LCS Crew 212 where he commanded USS Jackson and USS Omaha during which time the crew earned two Battle “E” awards.
Ashore CAPT Walton served as an observer/trainer for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Deployable Training Team, Joint Staff, J7 where he facilitated mission command and information sharing. CAPT Walton completed and Individual Augment deployment in support of Task Force SENTINEL as Commander Task Group Arabian Gulf, working with eight coalition partner nations on Arabian Gulf Security efforts. Most recently, CAPT Walton served as the Littoral Combat Ship Branch Head and Assistant Deputy Ships in OPNAV N96 Surface Warfare Directorate.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Leadership award and various other personal, unit, and service awards.
