CAPT James M. “Mike” Williams

Commanding Officer, USS CHOSIN (CG 65)

17 February 2023 CAPT Williams, a native of Memphis, TN, enlisted in the Navy in 1991. He was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1997 and graduated from the University of Memphis in 1999 earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Manpower Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College.

Afloat, CAPT Williams completed division officer tours as First Lieutenant and Navigator aboard USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). He was the Operations Officer for both department head tours aboard USS John L Hall (FFG 32) and on the staff of Destroyer Squadron 15. He served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer aboard USS Kidd (DDG 100).

Ashore, CAPT Williams completed a Personnel Exchange Program tour as the Fleet Scheduler for Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific and a Joint Duty tour as Resources and Requirements Division Chief for Special Operations Command Europe. He has also completed tours as an Assessment Team Lead at the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, as Commanding Officer of Afloat Training Group Mayport, and most recently as the Branch Head for Future Ship Requirements in the Surface Warfare Directorate (OPNAV N96).

He is currently serving as Commanding Officer aboard USS CHOSIN (CG65).
