LCDR Ivan G. Dobrev

Executive Officer, USS Milius (DDG 69)

28 February 2023 LCDR Dobrev is native from Bulgaria. He immigrated to the United States in 2004, enlisted in the US Navy in 2005, and earned his commission from the Officer Candidate School in 2008. He holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Marine Transportation Engineering from the Naval Academy – Varna, Bulgaria; Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from the University of Economics – Varna, Bulgaria; and a Master of Business Administration degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He also completed JPME Phase 1.

LCDR Dobrev’s assignments at sea include Operations Specialist on USS CARR (FFG 52), Auxiliaries Officer / Main Propulsion Officer on USS BARRY (DDG 52), Navigator on USS CARNEY (DDG 64), Chief Engineer on USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110), and Combat Systems Officer in Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE. During these tours, LCDR Dobrev completed four deployments in Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Fleet Areas of Operation. He assumed the duties of an Executive Officer onboard USS MILIUS (DDG 69) in February 2023.

Ashore, LCDR Dobrev served as a Naval Science Instructor, Carnegie Mellon University NROTC Unit, U.S. Pacific Fleet’s Lead Joint Exercise Planner for Southeast Asia, and Fleet Training Standards Manager for the Commander, US Pacific fleet.

LCDR Dobrev’s personal decorations include Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards).
