A native of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Commander Larsen is the eldest son of a Naval Aviator. He graduated from Oregon State University in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, and was commissioned in December 2007 in Newport, Rhode Island with OCS Class 08-03.

His division officer tours were aboard USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49), forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan where he served as the First Division Officer and Main Propulsion Division Officer, then aboard USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3) where he served as pre-commissioning Navigator.  As a first tour department head, he served as the Operations Officer in USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93), conducting a Seventh Fleet deployment with JOHN C STENNIS Carrier Strike Group.  For his second department head tour, he served as the Operations Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE (CDS 9), conducting a Fifth Fleet deployment with NIMITZ Carrier Strike Group.

Ashore, he has been stationed in Manama, Bahrain at Commander, Fifth Fleet / COMUSNAVCENT as a Long Range Operational Planner, and in Washington, D.C. on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Expeditionary Warfare Division (OPNAV N95), as the Deputy Executive Assistant.  Most recently, Commander Larsen served as the Mariner Skills Policy Coordinator and LCS Officer of the Deck Course Supervisor at Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC N72) in Newport, Rhode Island.

Commander Larsen’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and various unit and service awards.
