A native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, CMDCM Metzger enlisted in the U.S. Navy July 2000. He attended basic training and Enginemen “A” school in Great Lakes IL.

Master Chief Metzger reported to USS Camden (AOE-2), Bremerton, WA in January 2001, where he was assigned to STREAM Division until January 2003. In March 2003 CMDCM Metzger reported to 7th Fleet Flag ship USS Blueridge (LCC-19),  homeported in Yokosuka Japan, where he served until May 2007. May 2007 Master Chief Metzger reported to Fleet Industrial Supply Center, Tsurumi in Yokohama where he was assigned as the Regional Fuels Officer for Kanto Plains, Japan and subsequently selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer September 2007.

Mater Chief Metzger returned to sea May 2010 onboard USS Shiloh (CG-67) where he served as “A” Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) during operation TOMODACHI following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. He rotated to USS Mccampbell (DDG-85) January 2012 where he served until May 2013. September 2013 CMDCM Metzger reported to Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) Unit Great Lakes, as the Basic Engineering Common Core LCPO until returning back to sea duty April 2015. May 2015 Master Chief Metzger reported to Manama Bahrain where he served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA)/MPA on USS Dextrous (MCM-13) and SEA/ACE onboard USS Devastator (MCM-6) supporting operations in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea until March 2016. In April 2016 Master Chief Metzger transferred to USS Germanton (LSD-42) homeported in Sasebo Japan for duties as 3MC until December 2019. In March 2020, he then reported to SWOS Newport where he was the SEA of Engineering Readiness training for Surface ships. In March 2021 he was selected into the Command Senior Enlisted Program where he was assigned to Naval Beach Unit SEVEN (NBU-7), homeported in Sasebo Japan.

Master Chief Metzger’s personal achievements and awards include: Graduate Naval Leadership and Ethics Center Command Master Chief & Chief of the Boat course, Graduate Naval War College Senior Enlisted Academy #227, Enlisted Surface Warfare, Master Training Specialist, Navy And marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and numerous unit and campaign awards.
