CDR Ronald Jenkins Jr. is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in December 2006.

He reported to the USS COLE (DDG 67) in January of 2007 where he served as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Assistant Weapons / Antiterrorism Force Protection Officer. He served onboard USS ANZIO (CG 68) as the Navigation / Legal / Administration Officer from April 2009 to May 2011. From June to December 2011, he served as Operations Officer for U.S. Naval Central Command Forward Headquarters Iraq supporting Operation New Dawn and the drawdown of U.S. Forces from Iraq. He continued his expeditionary warfare tour as the Force Communications Officer (N6) / Current Operations Officer of Navy Expeditionary Combat Force Central / Task Force FIVE SIX in Manama Bahrain, from December 2011 to December 2012.

He served as the Flag Secretary for Amphibious Force U.S. Seventh Fleet and eventually Flag LT from January 2012 to February 2013. in March 2014 he reported onboard USS HOPPER (DDG 70) as Operations Officer and Senior Watch Officer. Upon completion of his first department head tour, he reported to Commander, Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) FIFTY/TASK FORCE FIVE FIVE in May 2016 as the Future Operations and Plans Officer. He assumed Command of USS SIROCCO (PC 6) in June 2018 and served as Commanding Officer. Post early command, he reported to Commander, Navy Personnel Command (PERS-41) as a surface warfare CDR / LCDR detailer from February 2020 to October 2021. He reported to his most recent assignment as Executive Officer onboard USS CARNEY (DDG 64) in April 2022.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other service awards and medals.
