Captain Andria Slough was commissioned in 1998 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering. She later earned her Master of Arts Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Public Policy and Management, with a concentration in Security and Intelligence Studies. At sea, Captain Slough served as Combat Information Center Officer, and later Auxiliaries and Electrical officer in USS O’Brien (DD 975); commissioning Fire Control Officer in USS Bulkeley (DDG 84); Weapons Officer in USS The Sullivans (DDG 68); Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS Defender (MCM 2) as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces-Japan; and as Executive and Commanding Officer in USS Porter (DDG 78) in the Forward Deployed Naval Forces-Europe, where her team earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the NATO Medal, the “Golden Anchor” Retention Excellence Award, the Atlantic Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Bloodhound Award, and the Destroyer Squadron 60 Battle Efficiency Award. Ashore, Captain Slough served at the Aegis Training and Readiness Center in Dahlgren, VA, as a technical instructor for Prospective Commanding Officers and Executive Officers, participated in the initial Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense capability development and headed the LCS/DD(X) Task Force; forward-deployed to the U.S. Central Command Headquarters in Doha, Qatar, supporting the Friendly Forces Coalition Coordination Center as a Naval Operations Officer; as the Deputy Director for Joint Maritime Ballistic Missile Defense Operations and Training at the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Program Office; as the Director of Maritime Warfighting in the Surface Warfare Officers’ School; as the Senior Military Assistant to the 33rd Under Secretary of the Navy; and, most recently, as the Naval Chair in Marine Corps University. Captain Slough reported to USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in September of 2021 as executive officer and took command April of 2023. She is a Joint Qualified Officer whose decorations include the Legion of Merit (two awards), the Pacific Fleet Shiphandler of the Year Award, and the Vice Adm. John D. Bulkeley Leadership Award.
