Cmdr. Eric Burtner-Abt hails from Boise, Idaho, where he attended the University of Idaho on a Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and his commission in December 2006.

Burtner-Abt’s sea duty assignments include tours on USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) as the Combat Systems Officer and the weapons officer, and two tours with Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Japan aboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) as navigator, and USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer.

His shore assignments include tours as an instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School Command, Executive Assistant to Commander Logistics Group Western Pacific/CTF-73 in Singapore, and Special Assistant to NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe/Commander, U.S. European Command, in Mons, Belgium.

His personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and service medals and ribbons.
