CDR Sean Hurley

Executive Officer, USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62)

28 April 2023 Commander Sean Hurley is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in International Relations and was commissioned in 2008. He holds a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He earned his Joint Professional Military Education from the Naval War College and the Joint Forces Staff College.

Hurley’s assignments at sea included duty as 2nd Division Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant on USS PONCE (LPD 15), Navigator on USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), and Operations Officer on USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41). While on WHIDBEY ISLAND, he was selected by Expeditionary Strike Group TWO for tactical excellence. His most recent sea duty assignment was N3 and Chief Staff Officer for Task Force SIX FIVE in Naples, Italy and Rota, Spain.

Assignments ashore include Operational Support Officer for Maritime Civil Affairs and Security Training Command, N43 DDG Type Desk Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic, and Flag Secretary to the Chief of Navy Reserve.

Hurley’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various service, campaign, and unit decorations.
