A native of Centennial, CO, Commander Edmiston is a 2001 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Physics and Astronomy.
CDR Edmiston graduated from Boot Camp in 2004, serving as an IC2 (SW) in USS DECATUR (DDG 73) until his commissioning from OCS in 2007. At sea, LCDR Edmiston’s further assignments include tours in guided missile destroyers and HSVs where he deployed six times. He served as Gunnery Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, and Visit, Board, Search and Seizure Officer in USS SAMPSON (DDG 102); Operations and C4I Officer in HSV-2 SWIFT (Gold Crew); Chief Engineer in USS SPRUANCE (DDG 111); and Combat Systems Officer in USS JAMES E. WILLIAMS (DDG 95).
Ashore, CDR Edmiston did a Global Support Assignment attached to the 172 Separate Infantry Brigade in Paktika Province, Afghanistan as the OIC of a Tactical Document and Media Exploitation team. Following that, he served as Fleet-NSW Liaison and Assistant Training Officer at Special Boat Team 12 in Coronado, CA. He then served in OPNAV N721, where he led the Wargaming Portfolio, supporting wargaming across the naval enterprise and joint partners to derive analysis in support of warfare development and warfighter education.
CDR Edmiston holds a Master of Arts degree in Military History from Norwich University, and completed JPME I. He is a Surface Warfare Officer Department Head course graduate with distinction and a recipient of the 2016 Navy Marine Corps Association Leadership Award.
Among his various campaign and unit awards, his personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4) and Navy Achievement Medal (2).
