A native of San Diego, California, Cmdr. Christopher Caraway enlisted in the Navy in 2000 as a nuclear electricians mate. In 2004, he was selected for the STA-21 commissioning program and attended the University of Arizona. In 2006, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and commission. Caraway earned a Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2013.
Caraway’s sea duty assignments include anti-submarine warfare officer onboard USS Stethem (DDG 63); reactor mechanical division officer onboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); first lieutenant onboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49); reactor training assistant onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).
Ashore, he has served as CVN maintenance coordinator at Commander, Naval Air Force, Pacific and as operations staff at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center – Mine Warfare Division.
He is currently serving as Commanding Officer for USS Omaha (LCS 12).
Caraway has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
