Master Chief Robert Ryan B. Pagcaliwagan is a native of the Republic of the Philippines and enlisted in the United State Navy as an Undesignated Striker in September 1997. He completed Basic Hospital Corpsman “A” school in February 1999, Field Medical Technician “C” School in May 1999 and Advanced Laboratory Technician “C” School in June 2000.
His sea duty assignments include USS CONNOLY (DD-979), 1st Force Service Support Group, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, U.S. Branch Health Clinic Diego Garcia and 3d Marine Aircraft Wing. His previous shore tours include Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Naval School of Health Sciences San Diego, Naval Medical Center San Diego and U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Naples, Italy.
His deployments include Counter Drug Operations on board the USS CONNOLY in 1998, Operations Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn with Combat Service Support Company-134 in Kuwait/Iraq in 2003, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit Western Pacific/Iraq deployment in 2005, Naval Expeditionary Combatant Command, Kuwait Detachment in 2007, Provincial Reconstruction Team, Helmand Province Afghanistan in 2010 and NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit, Kandahar Province Afghanistan in 2014.
He served in various technical and leadership capacities such as Advanced Medical Laboratory Technician, Fleet Marine Force General Duty Corpsman, Medical Logistics Manager, Platoon Sergeant, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Corpsman, Medical Laboratory Technician Program Instructor, Command Career Counselor, Leading Chief Petty Officer and Senior Enlisted Leader.
His military decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), various campaign and service medals. He has earned his Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualifications, Master Training Specialist designation, and graduated from the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 192) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 23095)
