Commander Seth Powell is from Indiana and is a 2005 graduate of the Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in History.
At sea, he served as Main Propulsion Division Officer, Auxiliaries Officer, and Training Officer aboard USS MOMSEN (DDG 92). As a department head he served as Chief Engineer aboard USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) and Chief Engineer aboard USS PRINCETON (CG 59).
His shore tours include serving on the staff for Commander Naval Forces Europe, Commander Naval Forces Africa, Commander Sixth Fleet and serving as Warfare Tactics Instructor Program Manager at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center.
In August of 2019 he reported to PCU TRIPOLI (LHA 7) as the Damage Control Assistant. While onboard he participated in crew moveaboard, initial crew training, commissioning, sail around to TRIPOLI’s homeport of San Diego, and TRIPOLI’s first basic phase training cycle.
In September of 2021 he reported to the Joint Navigation Warfare Center in Albuquerque, NM where he served as the Theater Navigation Warfare Coordination Cell lead for USINDOPACOM and as the J33 Current Operations Branch Chief. Commander Powell’s decorations include five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
