Command Master Chief Sean Baney is a native of Holland, Ohio and graduated from Springfield High School in 1991. He joined the Navy Reserve in January 2001 and after completing initial training reported to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment as a Platoon Corpsman.

After being selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2010, he served as Medical Department Leading Chief Petty Officer for 1st Bn 24th Marines, Detroit, MI. Upon selection to Senior Chief in 2013, HMCS Baney became Training Chief for Amphibious Construction Battalion TWO, Little Creek, VA. He then performed a tour with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO TWO, Port Hueneme, CA, as the Administrative Chief and Senior Medical Department Representative. He was selected for the Command Senior Enlisted Leadership program in 2019 and reported to EMF Great Lakes ONE as the Command Senior Chief.

He was selected for Command Master Chief in 2020. He mobilized and assumed the role of Command Master Chief for Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, from May 2021 until May 2022.

In August 2022, Command Master Chief Baney reported to Commander, Pacific Fleet as the Reserve Component Command Master Chief. He is currently on active duty orders and stationed aboard USS SHOUP (DDG-86) in Yokosuka, Japan since July 2023. Master Chief Baney has deployed to the Horn of Africa, Iraq, the Western Pacific, and Afghanistan.
 
CMDCM Baney is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Blended Course 54 and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course Class 202. He completed his Bachelor Degree from Bowling Green State University, majoring in Fire Department Administration. He holds the Fleet Marine Force Warfare, Surface Warfare, Seabee Combat Warfare, Expeditionary Warfare and Air Warfare Specialist Qualifications. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (5), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and multiple unit and campaign ribbons.
