CAPT Jesse J. Zimbauer

Chief of Staff, Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5)

15 August 2023 Capt. Jesse Zimbauer was commissioned in 1997 after serving as a Crypto Linguist in the U.S. Marine Corps and graduating from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in Chemical Engineering and Naval Science. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree at the Carlson School of Management. Zimbauer’s sea duty assignments include serving as the first commanding officer of USS INDIANA (SSN 789). He also held command of USSGEORGIA (SSBN 729) Gold Crew and served as the Executive Officer of USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717), and served as Flag Secretary to Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan. Earlier sea duty assignments include Navigator tours aboard USS ASHEVILLE (SSN758) and USS HELENA (SSN 725), and served as a Division Officer with the USS GEORGIA Gold Crew through five strategic deterrent patrols.

Ashore, Zimbauer served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations at Commander, Task Force 74, Operations. Officer at Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 11 and Assistant Professor of Naval Science at the University of Minnesota NROTC program. Zimbauer took over as Chief of Staff at Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70/Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 in July of 2023.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), as well as several other personal and unit awards, including the Battle Efficiency Award while aboard USS OLYMPIA.
