CDR Ryan E. Benko is from Cleveland, OH and grew up in Bremerton, WA. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and commissioned through Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI in December 2008. He received a Master's of Business Administration from Washington State University in 2016.
At sea, Ryan served onboard USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60) as Combat Information Center Officer and Main Propulsion Division Officer; USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) as Navigator; USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) as Chief Engineer; and Destroyer Squadron NINE as Materiel Officer (N4).
On shore, Ryan served as a SATCOM Watch Officer and Future Operations Planner at United States Cyber Command’s Global SATCOM Support Center in Colorado Springs, CO. At Surface Warfare School Command (SWSC) in Newport, RI he was lead instructor to the Navigation, Seamanship, and Shiphandling Instructor Course (NSSIC) and supported the Surface Navigator Course and the Advanced Division Officer Course (ADOC) as shiphandling instructor. In his second term at SWSC, he served as a Department Head Instructor and Undersea Warfare Cell Lead.
His personal awards include: Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2).
