Commander John W. Weaver is a native of Killeen, Texas. He is a 2005 graduate from the University of San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was commissioned in May 2005 through the Seaman to Admiral – 21 program. In 2013, he holds a master’s degree in computer science with an emphasis in Modeling Virtual Environments and Simulation (MOVES) from the MOVES Institute, at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Upon graduation from the University of San Diego, he reported for duty onboard USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) where he qualified surface warfare officer, and served as the fire control officer and force protection officer. He reported to USS Curts (FFG 38) in June 2007 where he served as the damage control assistant and administration officer. He reported to USS Zumalt (DDG 1000) in September 2013 where he served as the weapons officer. He reported to USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in December 2016 where he served as the training officer. Ashore, he served as an instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI, action officer for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), and Commanding Officer of Navy Reserve Center Rochester.

He has conducted four 5th Fleet deployments and one 7th Fleet patrol. He has served as a member on a variety of working groups supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Navy, and Commander, Naval Surface Forces.

His military decorations include the two Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit campaign and service awards.
