CAPT Victor J. Garza

Commanding Officer, USS Antietam (CG 54)

23 August 2023 CAPT Victor Garza is a native of Gilroy, California and a 1997 graduate of UCLA in Mechanical Engineering. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in 1999. He also earned a Master’s in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University on his post-division officer tour.

CAPT Garza’s initial sea duty assignment was to USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) where he served as the ship’s main propulsion division officer. Subsequent sea tours have included assignments on USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48) as the navigator, department head tours onboard USS DECATUR (DDG 73) and USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) as the operations officer and main propulsion assistant respectively, and Executive Officer, fleeting up to command, onboard USS HIGGINS (DDG 76). He recently completed tours with USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) as the reactor officer and as the Commanding Officer onboard USS COWPENS (CG 63).

CAPT Garza has been assigned to several staff tours ashore. He served his post-division officer tour at the NROTC unit at UC Berkeley. He was assigned to the OPNAV staff as Navy surface guns and ammunition action officer, as well as a tour with Navy Propulsion Training Unit, Charleston, as the Executive Officer.
