A native of Limestone, Maine, CDR Matthew Shaw enlisted in the Navy in 1994 as a Builder in the Seabees, was commissioned in 2005 through the Seaman to Admiral-21 program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Old Dominion University and his Masters in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School.
His sea duty assignments include Main Propulsion Officer aboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), Navigator aboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), Operations Officer aboard USS Dewey (DDG 105), Operations Officer aboard USS Freedom (LCS 1), and Executive Officer aboard USS MOBILE (LCS 26).
Ashore, he served as the Director of Leader Development and the Director of Operations at Afloat Training Group, San Diego, and as the TLAM Officer in Charge at U.S. Third Fleet.
His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
