Master Chief Phillip Leonardo Woods Jr. is from Clark AFB in Angeles City, Philippines and was raised in Northern California. He reported to RTC in September of 1998 and pipelined from Hospital Corpsman “A” School to Field Medical Service School.
His previous deployments were aboard USS BOXER (LHD-4), USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52), USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), BMU ONE, Fleet Surgical team THREE, 3rd & 1st Medical BN and a Combat Tour in Iraq. Ashore, he served at Naval Hospital Okinawa & Camp Pendleton, Medical center San Diego and Naval Hospital Corps School, San Antonio, Texas. In the Summer of 2023 Master Chief would return to the Mighty USS PEARL HARBOR to assume his duties as Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Woods graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in 2017 class 206 and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Leadership & Development and an Associates in General Studies. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Five Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Five awards), Pistol & Rifle Expert Medals, numerous campaign & unit awards. CMDCM Woods is a recipient of the Stennis Center for Leadership Aircraft Carrier “Swamp Fox” award.
