Command Master Chief, USS Russell (DDG 59)

30 October 2023 Master Chief Steven G. Hassler, a native of Wheatland, Wyoming, enlisted in the Navy in January 2003. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Mineman “A” and “C” School, in Ingelside, Texas.

Master Chief Hassler’s sea duty assignments include USS PATRIOT (MCM 7) Sasebo, Japan, LCS MCM Detachment Two, San Diego CA, and USS MANCHESTER (LCS 14) Crew 205, San Diego, CA, USS TULSA (LCS 16) Crew 215, San Diego, CA.
Ashore Master Chief served at SCRMC, Ingelside, TX, SWRMC, San Diego, CA and Mine Warfare Training Center, San Diego, CA.

In August, 2023 Master Chief Hassler reported for duty as the Command Master Chief for USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), San Diego, CA.

He is the graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 233 and CMC/COB Course Class 21120. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards), and numerous unit citations.
