CMDCM(SW/AW) Matthew E. Ross

Command Master Chief, USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114)

20 November 2023 Master Chief Ross is a native of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1999 out of Boise, Idaho where he attended Recruit Basic Training in Great Lakes, IL. and immediately attended Seaman ATD School. He entered the Navy as an Undesignated Seaman and during his first assignment he chose to become a Boatswain’s Mate.  

In January 2021 he was selected to become a Command Senior Chief and served as USS WARRIOR (MCM 10) Command Senior Chief and ultimately the Command Master Chief.  In October 2023 Master Chief Ross reported to the USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG 114) to serve as her Command Master Chief.

Command Master Chief Fleet assignments include USS BRIDGE (AOE-10), Bremerton WA; USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), Yokosuka JP; USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40), Agana GU; USS MUSTIN (DDG 89), Yokosuka JP; USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), Yokosuka JP; USS AMERICA (LHA 6), Sasebo JP; USS WARRIOR (MCM 10), Sasebo JP; USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG 114), Yokosuka JP.

Command Master Chief Shore assignments include SFWD, Strike Fighter Wing Detachment, Fallon NV; and NBPL Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego CA.

His personal decorations include (3) Navy Commendation Medal, (5) Navy Marine Corp Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. Senior Enlisted Academy graduate class 217 (Gold) in September 2018 and CMC/COB graduate 21103 in September 2021.
