A 2006 graduate of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Commander Ochs earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. While in the Navy, he earned a Master’s degree in Space Systems Operations from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is originally from Pesotum, IL.

A career surface warfare officer, Commander Ochs shipboard assignments include: USS MCINERNEY (FFG 8) as Repair Officer and Communications Officer, USS PRINCETON (CG 59) as Fire Control Officer, LCS Crew 203 as Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer, and his XO Afloat tour on USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55). Having deployed around the world in support of multiple operations. Ashore, he served as classroom trainer and lab instructor for AEGIS Training and Readiness He was also an Action Officer on the OPNAV Staff for the Director, Navy Plans, Policy, and Integration (N5), and the Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration and Flag Secretary to the Commander, Carrier Strike Group TEN.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
