Commander Chad Stewart, a native of Safety Harbor Florida, enlisted in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Electrician’s Mate in 1998. Upon completion of Nuclear Power Prototype Training, he was selected for the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island, Class of 2001. He earned a Bachelor of Science in General Science from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 2005, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Material Science) from the Naval Postgraduate School.
 
Commander Stewart commanded USS FRANK E. PETERSEN JR. (DDG 121), homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI and USS SQUALL (PC 7) while forward deployed to the FIFTH Fleet AOR in Manama, Bahrain. During his time in command of USS FRANK E. PETERSEN JR., he completed his Post-Delivery Shakedown Availability and Basic Phase and became the first Flt IIA DDG to serve as a CSG Integrated Air and Missile Defense Commander.  During his time in command of USS SQUALL, completed multiple maritime security patrols in the FIFTH Fleet AOR and an extended dry-docking availability.
 
At-sea, his division officer tours include Electrical Officer, Strike Officer, and Navigator and Administrative Officer in DDG CREW SIERRA and USS LABOON (DDG 58), one of three ships in the Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Sea Swap initiative. He completed two deployments to FIFTH and SIXTH Fleets. His department head tours include Chief Engineer in USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62), Chief Engineer, and Executive Officer in USS SHILOH (CG 67) while forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.  CDR Stewart completed his tour as Executive Officer in USS FRANK E. PETERSEN JR. (DDG 121) in September 2022.
 
Ashore, Commander Stewart completed a tour at Naval Service Training Command, Pensacola Programs as the Placement Officer for the Navy ROTC and STA-21 Programs. Most recently, he served as N3/N40, Operations/Assessments Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Group Western Pacific, responsible for the long-range training, maintenance, and assessment schedules of Yokosuka-based FDNF-J CRUDES ships. 
 
Commander Stewart’s personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards) and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
