Captain Pete Abbott is the son and grandson of career naval officers and calls San Diego, CA his hometown. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of California, Los Angeles and commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps in 2001. He holds a master’s in Business Administration from KenanFlagler Business School (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) and a master’s in National Security Strategy from National War College.
His assignments at sea include tours aboard USS Kinkaid (DD 965), USS Fletcher (DD 992), USS Preble (DDG 88), USS Kidd (DDG 100), and executive officer of MCM Crew Constant and USS John Finn (DDG 113). He commanded MCM Crew Constant embarked in USS Ardent (MCM 12) and USS John Finn. The exceptional Sailors of USS John Finn earned consecutive “Battle E” awards for excellence during his command tour.
Ashore, he served as an instructor at Duke University Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, Surface Warfare Junior Officer Sea Coordinator at Navy Personnel Command (PERS-41), and as aide to the U.S. Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee. Most recently, he was the executive assistant to the Director, Surface Warfare Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (N96).
Personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is a recipient of the Vice Adm. John D. Bulkeley leadership award.
