Cmdr. Matthew Warnecke, a native of Oceanside, CA, earned his bachelor of science in Information Technology from the United States Naval Academy in 2007.
His sea assignments include USS Decatur (DDG 73) as Communications Officer and Main Propulsion Officer, USS Germantown (LPD 42) and USS Harpers Ferry (LPD 49) as Assistant Operations Officer, completing three deployments to Fifth and Seventh Fleet areas of responsibility. As a department head, he served as the Operations Officer aboard USS Sterett (DDG 104) and USS Tulsa (LCS 16) completing a Western Pacific SAG Deployment on Sterett and commissioning Tulsa. Upon completion of his department head tours, he served as Flag Secretary to RDML Stuart Baker and RDML Doug Verissimo at Carrier Strike Group 9 and then Operations Officer and Staff Director at Destroyer Squadron 23.
Cmdr. Warnecke’s shore duty consists of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) where he earned his Masters of Science degree in Information Technology Management and a certificate in Cyber Security Applications.
Cmdr. Warnecke’s designations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and service awards.
